The storyline is actually rather trite. You're thrown into a situation you're not aware of quite yet, come to figure some things out just in time to save the world. You're infected and want to find out why and for what reason. There are also few bosses in the game. It has few puzzles to accomplish and is mostly fighting. And the way that the game introduces new techniques to you could do with some more guidance. As well, one of the most common enemies in the game is introduced to you in a wave of about 5 and they'll pretty much kill you about 2-3 times before you realize they're not actually that hard. Though it's length is good enough and the levels are varied enough that it doesn't feel like all you're doing is fighting (which you all you really are doing is that). It introduced a new element just in time for the previous one to get boring. However, its length does make the idea of replaying it a bit . . . daunting. Not "let's play Oblivion again" daunting, when you finish Dark Sector you realize that it's not really worth it.
The graphics are pretty good and the AI is varied in its tactics. The humans will seek cover and provide suppressive fire for each other, though that doesn't actually do much in the end against a glaive that can arc from over a wall and decapitate 5 guys in a hole (like I said, once you can control that thing in the air you won't do anything else).
It's an alright game. I spent $19 for it and felt that I could have waited will it was 15 or even 10. It was good enough for 4-5 days of gaming. If the game had puzzles and a better story line, then I'd have paid 29 for it, but the new twist on the genre made it interesting enough for someone like me to pick up. I'm just that kind of guy that likes seeing new thing, and it kept feeding me something new to eat up, and I ate it up, and I liked it enough.
It has a multiplayer but it's only LAN, a dumb idea. Maybe it was thrown in last minute, but then don't advertise something you just threw in at the last minute. I haven't played it as no one else I know at LANs actually owns this game.
